“I bought this product for my newborn daughter because we were afraid to leave her alone in her crib. A friend had recently lost their baby to SIDS. It was easy to install. The hardest part was the pieces of wood to support the sensors, but you can just buy them on Amazon too. I made mine out of scrap plywood. I was amazed the first night when I got close enough to hear her breathing and noticed that the sensors caught every breath and flinch which is displayed by a green flash on the control unit (which is not as bright as people complain about. I sleep two feet away. Maybe it is a different model). Some people claimed their ceiling fan or airconditioning would set it off. I tested it several times and neither seemed to be enough on the sensors to keep the alarm from going off. Perhaps it is crib placement? The only annoying thing was that I would take her out of the crib and forget to turn it off, but eventually, we got used to pushing the button first. The third night we were using it, the alarm went off in the middle of the night. I jumped up and found she had scooted to a corner. I scooped her up, she jumped, and I put her back in the middle. I then reset the alarm assuming it was a false alarm. The next day when I woke up she had scooted to that corner again but had NOT set the alarm off. The next night the alarm went off in the middle of the night again. This time she was right in the middle. When I touched her she didn’t flinch and I noticed that she was not breathing. I shook her she didn’t flinch. She didn’t jump until I picked her up all the way out of the crib. I am not a doctor. I don’t know if she would have started breathing again on her own, or if this device saved her life. I also don’t ever care to test it. All I know is she stopped breathing, and 20 seconds is long enough for me. This thing is awesome. It doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of the other devices, but it covers the WHOLE crib and I am willing to bet that there is just more money invested in the sensors because they are incredible. This was the best thing we bought for our new baby. I am recommending this to everyone.”
“I can not stress enough what this product has done for me! I had my first baby one month early at 4 pounds and was very nervous about her breathing etc. I also then decided to research SIDS and at that point I DID NOT SLEEP! My newborn was sleeping hours a day and I spent my free time staring at her. Everytime she would sleep soundly I would move her to make sure she was still breathing. Two months in I could not take my sleep deprivation anymore! I decided to research into breathing monitors and everything I found was so so pricey! I then stumbled upon the SENSE-U breathing monitor. Not only did it have good reviews but it was in my price range! It was incredibly fast shipping and took me three days to fully trust it but once I seen it was accurate, I slept and sleep so well now! I’ve been using the SENSE-U monitor for one month and have had ZERO problems! I had one low breathing alert and it was MY FAULT! if the onsie is not tight the monitor won’t be flush against the baby and you can not get an accurate reading. I changed her to a onsie that fit and no problems again after that! If your questioning if you should buy this product…DONT HESITATE! Get that piece of mind and I promise it’s worth every penny! The Bluetooth connection is strong unless I walk outside then it dissconnects But in my one bedroom apartment it is no problem here! It has a roll over alert that gives you an alert if tummy sleeping is detected. It shows you if the baby is on left or right side. If the low breathing alert comes on I PROMISE you will hear it! Perfectly loud!! I would give this product 10 stars if I could!”
“I had a child die from sids. This product is INVALUABLE. It will alert you and also stimulate breathing with mild vibration. To those negative reviews, false alarms, you’re not placing it properly and giving this product undue comments. My 2nd child is now 18mos. I had some false alarms and some real ones but thats WAY better than the alternative. When you complain about a product that warns you that your child isn’t breathing, please make sense. Understand that you have probably placed the product erroneously and you can’t fault a quality product due to user difficulties. Peace of mind doesn’t begin to describe this. It’s a quality product that also encourages breathing once breathing has stopped. I applaud this product. I will keep attaching this to my daughter as long as I can.”
“I’ve labored over what to write because I’m glad I bought this product but I’m also very disappointed with the quality for the price as you’ve seen from other reviewers. It’s a great idea and even in it’s current state it’s a helpful tool but I think you should know a few things going in. You’ll see a lot on people medical professionals not recommending this and FDA stuff yada yada yada, which was echoed by our nurses (they did not recommend it) but this centers around two things (keep in mind this is my own research so do your own on these).
1 FDA – It seems this is basically that the FDA considered this a medical device which requires certain tests and verifications and what most things seems to come down to which is money. Owlette didn’t want to pay fees for the testing required so they changed the product to not require FDA certification or whatever it is called.
2 Medical professionals don’t recommend – All our nurses advised against the product but for the same reason, false positives. Our son had to spend two weeks in a special care nursery where his pulse and O2 were measured by the medical version of this product which costs thousands if not tens of thousands of dollars. That device did the same thing this sock does which is give you ample amounts of false positives. That machine and this sock are very prone to being knocked off by the kicking of a baby, particular an awake and hungry baby in our case. With that said below is my fool pros and cons list:
Pros: 1. it gives us great peace of mind – you’re likely looking at this for the same reason we bought it, which is nightmare stories of SIDS. Despite it’s many issues I’m confident it’s reading our child’s vitals within a margin of error to alert us if they dip too low. 2. It is relatively easy to use – You need the app for more info on what’s happening but you can also use stand alone the sock and base. This is helpful for traveling if you don’t have wifi. There are three alerts Green (normal readings) Yellow (Trouble getting reading) Violet (Baby needs assistance). Technically there’s also flashing green (obtaining signal) and white (the sock is charging) 3. Doesn’t seem to bother the child – Despite him kicking it off as babies are wont to do he seems indifferent to it being on or off which I read as it being reasonably comfortable. He also has sensitive skin which this doesn’t seem to irritate.
Cons 1. False Positives – the nurses were right and this gets kicked off all the time. It’s not as often as they said but it’s frequent enough to be a con. Think 4-5 times a week. Again, I think it’s just the nature of something for babies like this. If sleep is your top priority though you will want to research other solutions as this is going to affect it. 2. The app is bad – We also bought the cam which this allows you to combo into one screen which is nice but it has many issues. Despite repositioning as a “sleep quality” monitor the app doesn’t really allow you to do anything with that. Also it’s clunky to install/setup and there are multiple versions of the app and products to add to confusion. It also lags sometimes and it doesn’t indicate it’s not live. I think they tried to simplify things but missed the target. I haven’t had wifi issues others had despite a basic one router set up that is on a different floor but it does say connection is just fair. 3. Lack of features – Similar to above I think they over simplified too much. The base needs to shut off the sock but it requires a memorized clicking/plugging in sequence instead of just a button or switch. Once the child is old enough to be sleep trained it’d also be great to lengthen the snooze feature but that’s not an option. you also can’t adjust the volume of the alarms or what the noise they make. This might be picky but again this is a $300 product which feels like it should pack a lot more than it does.
Overall – I’d say there’s just two camps on this. Do you want to know for sure your baby is still breathing? this will do that. Do you want a top tier product that will maximize your peace of mind with sleep and functions? This falls woefully short and leaves me scratching my head at some decisions.
I’m still glad I bought this in hopes it spurs more products that have the same goal but function better. I also think it fits our needs but there is significant room to improve in almost ever facet.”
“Both my husband and I suffer from postpartum anxiety. We were losing sleep and were quite honestly wrecks at times over the thought of losing our baby to SIDS. She’s now 7 weeks old and we’ve had it for about 3 weeks. It’s worth every penny. We’re still cautious and always are checking the baby monitor but it’s given us our lives back. We spend time together outside of the bedroom (where baby sleeps in bassinet) and can actually rest at night. I’m sure the device isn’t perfect but it just feels like an extra set of eyes which is so reassuring. Love this product and will use it on future children!
Also, I really like the concept of this device in contrast to the owlet monitor. I’m an ICU nurse, who looks at vital signs on monitors all day long. For me, my concern is not over minor fluctuations/trends in what can be arbitrary numbers. It’s whether or not my baby is breathing. The owlet provides too much data which, knowing myself, could become all consuming. The snuza just let’s me know is baby breathing which is, in my opinion, all you need to know as a parent.”
“I have been a user of the Monbaby for almost 3 months now. After the passing of my first son due to SIDS, I knew I had to find a baby monitor that worked for me. This was an extremely personal purchase, as my loss was devastating and unexpected. It was the day of my son’s 6 month birthday; many people I know say they have never heard of such a late loss. Despite his ability to roll from belly to back and over again, he stopped breathing in his sleep one night. This was awful for my family; I became pregnant very soon after his death.
Thus started my search for a baby monitor. However, not only were MonBaby’s competitors (the Owlet for example) overpriced, they also had bad reviews regarding burning babies feet and alarms going off for no reason. I know many people love the monitors they use, but spending 2 or 3 hundred dollars on a baby monitor was literally impossible for my family. I am of the firm belief that life saving devices like baby monitors should be affordable for all families.
It dawned on me that most parents would not bother worrying about oxygen levels of the blood (and I myself was very confused at how that information could be relayed and/or misconfigured). As a result, I began searching for another product to fit my families needs. Viola, I found the Monbaby! I love the fact that the alerts are in real time- and for the people who complain about bluetooth not reaching I disagree. My MonBaby reaches all through my 1k square foot apartment, through walls and everything. For the price point, the Monbaby is amazing. I also bought a Snuza Hero and I don’t use that nearly as much.
The MonBaby has definitely given me peace of mind. I can sleep at night knowing my son is okay. I worry much less and I can do more around the house.
If you follow instructions and explore the app a bit, you can basically figure out any issue that you have. And the battery lasts a while – I’ve only had to replace mine once since I bought it.”
“I honestly could write pages about how much I love this monitor. I have 4 boys and have therefore gone through my fair share of monitors through the years. I wish this monitor had been available for my other kids. These are some of the main reasons why I love it : 1. Peace of mind!! When your a parent you have enough to worry about, including SIDS. I remember plenty of times running into my kids rooms to see if they were breathing because they had been napping a while, or just because I was worried. I have NOT had that worry since buying this monitor. It accurately tracks breathing and allows me to know that someone is watching when I’m not. 2. Picture quality. The monitor really had a phenomenal picture even when in night mode and the range of view is huge. No need to move the monitor around to see an entire room. The monitor when placed in the right spot can monitor an entire room. 3. Connectivity. I previously had the Miku which I was extremely happy with, but at times the connection would drop out. I decided to try the Miku Pro and due to the ability for it to also connect to 5.0Ghz wifi there are no more connection issues. I could honestly go on and on about the app, the ability to add other users like a caretaker or grandparent. The ease of setup, the numerous options to turn on/off alarms and lights, voice and music. This monitor really has it all. Do yourself a favor and buy this!!! You will not regret it!”
